Autumn, Albert
Autumn, Albert

A couple and their dog walk the south Thames embankment toward Albert Bridge glowing gold in the fading autumn light - an intimate, Monet-like painting, softly impressionistic and quietly contemplative.

Artwork Description
The composition draws the eye along the south bank of the Thames toward the illuminated span of Albert Bridge. A bare oak tree frames the left of the canvas, its branches largely empty, marking the season clearly. A couple and their dog move gently through the foreground, their figures loose and warm against the cool embankment. Across the water, Albert Bridge glows almost theatrically - its structure lit by the setting sun, reflecting in golden streaks across the river's surface. The sky above is a layered mosaic of blues, greys, mauves and purples, dissolved in soft impressionistic strokes. Delicate and atmospheric, the brushwork leans toward a Monet-like sensitivity - edges blurring, colours merging, mood overtaking description.

Artist's Insight
This painting was a commission, and it gave me permission to slow down. I'm usually drawn to movement and energy, but Albert Bridge at dusk in autumn offers something else entirely. The bridge becomes less a piece of engineering and more a source of light - it practically glows. I worked with a very soft palette throughout, letting the blues and mauves of the sky do the emotional work. The couple and their dog in the foreground are deliberately understated. They anchor the scene without distracting from the atmosphere. It's one of the quieter paintings I've made.
