Artwork Description
This boldly graphic work presents Balham Underground Station as both transit hub and neighbourhood landmark. The recognisable façade is simplified and flattened in a screen-print-inspired style, with vivid patches of orange, blue, grey and purple dividing the pavement into stylised colour planes. The iconic Underground roundel and blue Balham signage identify the location with immediate clarity. Cyclists pause at the lights, parents push prams and commuters cross the junction while others descend toward the entrance. Perspective is slightly exaggerated and edges sharpened, creating a playful, energetic interpretation of a junction that countless South Londoners pass through daily.

Artist's Insight
Balham station is one of those places where the whole neighbourhood converges. I wanted to strip back the architecture and focus on shape, rhythm and colour - to make it feel like a graphic symbol of the area rather than just a building. The patches of orange across the pavement are completely deliberate. They don't describe reality; they describe the energy of the crossing. By pushing the palette and flattening the perspective, I turned a familiar junction into something worth stopping and looking at.
