  • Artwork Description

    Two figures emerge from a mist-filled alpine landscape, skis balanced over their shoulders, poles in tired hands. The background drifts in soft greys, whites and faint purples - fading afternoon light high in the Alps. The foreground is heavier and more textured, capturing the crusted, uneven quality of snow underfoot after a long day. Flecks of turquoise hint at ice beneath the surface. The figures are near-monochrome, snow still clinging to their jackets and ski tips. They look exhausted and entirely purposeful. The Vallée Blanche is behind them. NBC Bar is ahead.

  • Artist's Insight

    This came from Chamonix - the long, weary walk back after the Vallée Blanche or Mer de Glace. The title comes from the inevitable next step: heading to NBC Bar for beer and chicken wings. It's a simple moment, but one that captures the real charm of mountain life. Friends, fatigue, big scenery, and the reward waiting at the bottom.

About the Artist

Johny is a painter and founder of Gallery Midnight in Balham. His work is often described as “abstract on reality”, capturing familiar landscapes, seascapes and city scenes with expressive colour and movement. Influenced by a life spent between London, the Alps and the Caribbean, his paintings explore changing light, atmosphere and energy, inviting viewers to see well-known places in new and unexpected ways.
