Big Power 10

Big Power 10

by Johny Midnight

A quieter, more reflective work within the series. Warm beiges, creams, terracotta and soft orange tones give the painting a timeless quality, with Monet-like Thames reflections and deep blue cranes providing subtle contrast.

Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

  • Artwork Description

Battersea Power Station is depicted with restraint and warmth rather than raw impact. The overall palette is built from beiges, creams, terracotta and soft oranges, giving the painting a timeless, almost luminous quality. Johny's use of palette knives, credit cards and sponges creates broken, tactile surfaces throughout. The chimneys are painted in gentle creams and whites with subtle hints of pale green, while cranes and shadows are pushed into deep blue, adding contrast without overpowering. The foreground is highly impressionistic - shimmering Thames reflections suggesting movement through layered colour and texture rather than describing water literally.

  • Artist's Insight

By the time I painted Big Power 10, Battersea had become almost instinctive. This familiarity allowed me to slow down and let subtlety lead the composition. I often describe this phase of the series as listening rather than shouting. Instead of bold neon or graphic force, this painting focuses on quiet observation - the warmth of brick, the softness of reflected light, and the feeling of standing still along the Thames. The tools matter as much as the subject; credit cards and sponges leave marks that feel lived-in and human, echoing the long history of the power station itself.
