Big Power 12

Big Power 12

by Johny Midnight

The most radical work in the series - Battersea Power Station rendered in ghosted white line work amid a spectrum of every colour. The building dissolves into pure colour and energy, felt rather than seen.

Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

  • Artwork Description

In this composition Battersea Power Station is no longer a solid structure but a ghosted presence, emerging through layers of colour and texture in delicate white linework - almost translucent, making it difficult to tell where the building begins or ends. Every colour of the spectrum collides and overlaps across the canvas. Around the outer edges, blocks of intense colour form a loose frame-like border, giving the painting simultaneous structure and explosion. The surface is richly textured through expressive mark-making. The power station feels embedded within the energy of the painting - absorbed into the colour field rather than sitting above it.

  • Artist's Insight

Big Power 12 was about letting go. After years of reworking Battersea through cubism, impressionism and urban abstraction, I reached a point where the building became pure memory and emotion rather than form. Battersea is felt rather than seen here. The white-line structure represents the idea of the power station rather than its physical mass - a landmark absorbed into colour, history and personal experience. This painting reflects my fearless approach to abstraction, trusting instinct over representation and allowing colour to take complete control. It stands as the most experimental piece in the collection.
