Big Power 2

Big Power 2

by Johny Midnight

Focusing on two of Battersea's iconic chimneys, Big Power 2 is a cubist and abstract composition where luminous colour stacks and collides. Bright oranges catch the light; the structure takes on an almost cathedral-like presence.

Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

  • Artwork Description

Two of Battersea's chimneys dominate this cubist and abstract composition, the architecture broken into layered planes of colour and form. Bright oranges and warm tones mark where light strikes the brick façade, contrasted by deeper shadows below. The background pushes into screen-print territory - luminous blues, greens and greys colliding with energy rather than describing a literal skyline. Moving downward, colour softens and melts, suggesting the River Thames and its reflections, giving the painting an almost cathedral-like sense of scale and atmosphere.

  • Artist's Insight

With Big Power 2, the series stopped being about architecture and became about presence. I wanted Battersea to feel dominant, spiritual even - something you feel when you're standing near it. The bold colours and fractured surfaces were all instinctive, driven by emotion rather than rules. I allowed myself to have fun with power - exaggerating scale, colour and mood until the building became almost mythic. The luminous background wasn't planned; it came from responding to the canvas moment by moment.
