  • Artwork Description

    Battersea Power Station is shown in a three-quarter view, fractured and reassembled through bold abstract blocks of colour. The skyline blazes with striking pinks, mauves and greens, layered against flashes of light blue. Bright orange marks where sunlight catches the brickwork, cutting through cooler tones to give the structure warmth and weight. Below, the River Thames is suggested rather than described - reflections dissolving into energetic marks and colour fragments, reinforcing the sense of movement, scale and an unapologetically expressive atmosphere.

  • Artist's Insight

    By the time I painted Big Power 3, Battersea had stopped being something I felt I had to paint correctly. I painted how it felt - loud, colourful, heavy with history and buzzing with modern life. The exaggerated colour palette wasn't planned; it built up layer by layer until the painting felt alive. I've always loved the tension in this piece - the clash between industrial structure and playful colour. That tension is what keeps pulling me back to Battersea, and why this remains one of the strongest statements in my London work.

Johny is a painter and founder of Gallery Midnight in Balham. His work is often described as “abstract on reality”, capturing familiar landscapes, seascapes and city scenes with expressive colour and movement. Influenced by a life spent between London, the Alps and the Caribbean, his paintings explore changing light, atmosphere and energy, inviting viewers to see well-known places in new and unexpected ways.
