Big Power 4

Big Power 4

by Johny Midnight

Big Power 4 is the most playful and colour-saturated work in the series. Turquoise and yellow illuminate the station against a grey sky, while a riot of abstract colour and joyful movement fills the Thames below.

Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

  • Artwork Description

Battersea Power Station rises from a foreground of intense, joyful colour. The sky is predominantly grey, alive with flashes of turquoise, soft blues and hints of pink. The power station itself glows in bold turquoise and warm yellow, giving the chimneys and façade a theatrical presence. Below, the River Thames becomes an explosion of abstracted reflections - reds, blues, greens, yellows and purples rippling across the surface in energetic brushwork, pulling the eye upward toward the structure above. The overall effect is uplifting, restless and unmistakably alive.

  • Artist's Insight

Big Power 4 is one of the most enjoyable paintings I've ever made. By this point I felt completely free - the building was no longer something I had to get right. I painted instinctively, reacting to colour, mood and memory rather than architecture. The foreground reflections came first, built up layer by layer, with the power station emerging almost naturally from the chaos below. I love how this piece refuses to be quiet. It's playful, confident and full of movement - much like the London I know.
