Big Power 7

Big Power 7

by Johny Midnight

A smaller, more intimate work blending impressionism and futurism. The station emerges from a softly undefined ground in reds, blues, turquoises and cream - quietly commanding, hovering between representation and abstraction.

Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

  • Artwork Description

The background is softly abstract - layered greys, pale blues and whites drifting like cloud, offering little anchoring detail and allowing the power station to push forward and dominate. The foreground introduces a subtle beige tone, worked loosely in a Monet-like impressionistic manner that suggests reflection rather than literal water. Battersea Power Station itself is rendered in striking contrasts: reds, strong blues, turquoises, cream and stark white. The structure feels simultaneously impressionistic and futuristic, hovering between representation and abstraction - commanding attention despite the painting's more intimate scale.

  • Artist's Insight

With Big Power 7 I deliberately stepped away from spectacle and focused on feel. I wasn't interested in architectural accuracy - I wanted to explore how Battersea felt when stripped of context. The soft, undefined background allowed me to let the building breathe, almost floating in its own atmosphere. I've always enjoyed balancing opposites, and this piece sits right on that edge - impressionistic yet modern, restrained yet powerful. It's a quieter work in the series, but one I find myself returning to. Sometimes the quieter paintings say the most.
