  • Artwork Description

    Battersea Power Station is presented in a three-quarter view beneath a pastel pink sky suffused with warmth. Subtle greys and mauves drift through the background while the River Thames mirrors these tones in gentle abstract reflection. The power station is rendered in a restrained palette of oranges, greys, turquoise blues and softened whites, its familiar form abstracted just enough to let colour and atmosphere take over. The result is dreamlike yet grounded - a painting that favours presence over drama, and stillness over spectacle.

  • Artist's Insight

    Big Power 8 was about stepping back from drama and letting colour do the talking. I've always loved how Battersea can feel monumental one moment and strangely gentle the next - especially when light, weather and reflection soften its edges. The pastel pinks felt right because they challenge expectations. Power stations aren't supposed to feel delicate, but Battersea has always broken rules. By stripping back the hard contrast and leaning into soft colour, I let the building breathe - sit quietly within the city rather than shout over it.

About the Artist

Johny is a painter and founder of Gallery Midnight in Balham. His work is often described as “abstract on reality”, capturing familiar landscapes, seascapes and city scenes with expressive colour and movement. Influenced by a life spent between London, the Alps and the Caribbean, his paintings explore changing light, atmosphere and energy, inviting viewers to see well-known places in new and unexpected ways.
