  • Artwork Description

    Set on the sun-warmed balcony of a rustic alpine chalet, this painting suspends a moment every skier recognises: the deliberate pause before the day begins. A moka pot sits ready on the stove. A skier, fully kitted, has decided the coffee comes first. Beyond the balcony rail, where skis rest untouched, Mont Blanc fills the valley in cool blues and violets. Spring blossom drifts past the wooden decking. Contrasting textures - tiled wall, shadow-striped boards, cold mountain air - make the warmth of the scene more vivid.

  • Artist's Insight

    Imagine sitting on the balcony of your rustic chalet with a coffee pot on the stove, looking at Mont Blanc down the valley. You're in full ski gear, but you're not going anywhere until that coffee is finished. That's the whole painting. The mountain will still be there.

About the Artist

Johny is a painter and founder of Gallery Midnight in Balham. His work is often described as “abstract on reality”, capturing familiar landscapes, seascapes and city scenes with expressive colour and movement. Influenced by a life spent between London, the Alps and the Caribbean, his paintings explore changing light, atmosphere and energy, inviting viewers to see well-known places in new and unexpected ways.
