Artwork Description
The viewer stands directly on the road as two classic black cabs cross Albert Bridge. Their forms are painted with confident, gestural strokes, reflecting fractured patches of colour on the wet road surface. A cyclist moves alongside while pedestrians line the pavements, framed by Victorian lampposts stretching into the middle distance. The two large foreground towers rise sharply in bold vertical marks, while the smaller towers beyond dissolve into softer abstraction. This contrast creates depth through loosened brushwork rather than measured detail. Hints of foliage soften the left edge of the composition, but the emphasis stays firmly on movement and momentum - architecture suggested rather than described.

Artist's Insight
Albert Bridge is one of the most painted subjects in London, and most paintings of it are viewed from the riverbank. I wanted to put you on the bridge itself, in the middle of the traffic. Two black cabs going in opposite directions, a cyclist weaving through - that's the reality of it. The towers are painted boldly in the foreground and then allowed to dissolve in the distance. I simplified the architecture deliberately: the detail would have killed the energy. The black cab anchors the composition. It's one of the few things in London that hasn't changed, and probably won't.
