  • Artwork Description

Battersea Power Station stands proudly along the River Thames, its monumental brick structure glowing in exaggerated deep reds and warm oranges. The iconic chimneys rise into the evening sky as Johny deliberately heightens the natural colour of the brickwork, using vibrant embellishments to bring warmth and movement to the structure. The reflections of the building stretch across the river below in impressionist brushwork, where colour and light take precedence over strict realism. The surrounding skyline hints at modern London while allowing the power station to remain the dominant presence, the overall atmosphere balancing realism with painterly expressive depth.

  • Artist's Insight

With Colours of Power I was exploring the beauty of an industrial structure that has become one of London's most iconic architectural landmarks. By intensifying the colour of the brickwork and embracing bold painterly techniques, I wanted to reimagine the power station as something vibrant and celebratory rather than purely functional. The influence of the impressionists is deliberate - the way the water handles reflections and light takes precedence over strict representation. I wanted to create a work that would sit comfortably in both modern interiors and traditional London homes - Battersea with fresh energy, but still carrying its history.
