  • Artwork Description

    Built up over two years as a working surface for wiped brushes, this piece on tempered glass reveals, when stood upright, the orange, white and turquoise of a kingfisher. The image hovers between abstraction and recognition: some viewers see the bird clearly, others an abstract figure diving. Dense, layered and richly coloured, it carries the accidental history of its own making, now framed and finished. A found image with the depth of long accumulation.

  • Artist's Insight

    This began as my work table. Every evening I wiped my brushes onto it, and after two years it was completely covered and headed for the dump. Lifting it upright, I noticed the orange, the white and the turquoise, and it brought a kingfisher to mind. On display, few people saw it - one woman was sure she could see an abstract person diving, while her boyfriend saw the kingfisher. It is framed now and ready to go.
