Artwork Description
This painting looks into the crowd from the back. Thousands of people - their backs lit by stage lights of every colour - stretch toward the pyramid stage in the distance, the structure itself glowing against the dark sky. Flags wave in the mid-ground. As the eye moves forward through the composition, individual characters begin to appear: faces illuminated from the front, expressions caught mid-moment, the specific textures of festival life. The top half of the canvas is sky, stage, and light - almost abstract in its treatment. The bottom half is people. Together they make the painting about what it actually feels like to be there: the scale, the dark, the colour, the noise implied by everything except sound.

Artist's Insight
I wanted the scale of this painting to match the scale of the experience. Glastonbury is not something you can summarise with a few figures in a field - there are genuinely tens of thousands of people there and I tried to suggest that. The flags were important: they give the mid-ground life and movement. I pushed the darkness harder in this version than in the summertime painting because the pyramid stage at night has a completely different character - more intense, more tribal. Every walk of life is in there somewhere.
