Artwork Description
The composition follows a tree-lined autumn path, dense canopies of gold and rust creating a textured ceiling overhead. The ground is painted in cool stylised blues scattered with fallen leaves. A couple walk hand in hand with their child, who stretches outward, pointing toward a girl approaching on a scooter - pink trousers, white jumper, blue puffer jacket catching the filtered light. The gesture becomes the narrative anchor of the painting. Behind, other figures populate the path - a couple on a bench, others drifting perhaps toward the café on Tooting Bec Common. Light filters through the branches, catching shoulders and coat edges, creating warmth despite the cool ground tones.

Artist's Insight
Once you have children, you hear 'I want one' approximately forty times a day. This painting came from a specific moment on Tooting Bec Common when a girl went past on a scooter and the child next to me immediately pointed and announced their requirement. The pointing finger is the painting - that absolute certainty of childhood desire. I surrounded the gesture with the warmth and texture of autumn so that the moment feels embedded in a specific time and place. The scooter is almost incidental. The feeling is the subject.
