Les Drus Rose
Les Drus Rose
by Johny Midnight
Two peaks from the Mont Blanc massif caught at the moment of alpenglow. The left blazes in warm pinks and oranges as the sun drops; the right retreats into cool grey shadow. Drama and restraint, side by side.
Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

Artwork Description
Two peaks from the Mont Blanc massif dominate this square-format painting, the left peak - Les Drus - caught in the full drama of alpenglow, while the right sits in cooler shadow. The left peak is built up in layers of dark charcoal, warm pink, burnt orange, and teal, with flashes of white snow in the crevices. The alpenglow here is at its most vivid: the mountain appears to generate its own light, the rock surfaces glowing as the last sun hits them. The right peak is painted in cooler, quieter tones - pale greys, soft blues, and muted whites - creating a contrast that amplifies the warmth of the left. Between them, a misty valley suggests depth and distance. The background is soft and atmospheric, painted in restrained greys and pinks that recede without competing with the central drama.

Artist's Insight
This work is about the drama of light rather than the geography of the mountains. Les Drus can feel overwhelming up close - sheer rock faces disappearing into cloud, constantly changing as weather rolls in and out. The pinks and oranges come from that short window in the evening when the sun drops and the rock briefly glows, before everything cools back to grey and blue. Painting two peaks together allowed me to show that contrast directly - one mountain in the light, one already in shadow. That moment lasts minutes. This painting holds it still.
