  • Artwork Description

    A chairlift rises through a snowstorm - snow falling heavily, pale blue sky barely visible, a burst of yellow sun pushing through from upper right. Below, tall snow-laden trees anchor the base. The skiers cluster together, their conversation unmistakably conspiratorial, bodies angled inward. At the far end, the snowboarder sits turned away, looking down the slope — physically and psychologically separate. Their clothing carries rich colour against the cold, wintry palette: reds, blues and greens amid the falling snow.

  • Artist's Insight

    This continues my chairlift series where snowboarders find themselves outnumbered. The title reflects the kind of tongue-in-cheek conversations many skiers will recognise - half serious, half joke - born out of mixed groups and differing speeds. The humour is gentle and affectionate. It's less about rivalry and more about memory.

About the Artist

Johny is a painter and founder of Gallery Midnight in Balham. His work is often described as “abstract on reality”, capturing familiar landscapes, seascapes and city scenes with expressive colour and movement. Influenced by a life spent between London, the Alps and the Caribbean, his paintings explore changing light, atmosphere and energy, inviting viewers to see well-known places in new and unexpected ways.
