Love the Power

Love the Power

by Johny Midnight

One of Johny's most intimate Battersea works - two chimneys rise against a pale beige sky in warm reds and earthy browns. Impressionistic Thames reflections and a gentle calm give this small painting an affectionate, contemplative character.

Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

  • Artwork Description

Battersea Power Station is reduced to its purest form - only two central chimneys rise quietly against a pale beige and soft grey skyline. The background is intentionally minimal, allowing space and calm to dominate. The power station is built from warm reds, burnt oranges and earthy browns, contrasted with cooler blue shadow areas that give the building weight and depth. The brushwork is loose and impressionistic, paint allowed to drip and blend naturally. In the foreground, the River Thames is suggested with gentle impressionistic reflections catching the pale white of the chimneys - calm, almost still, mirroring the quiet tone of the entire painting.

  • Artist's Insight

I describe Love the Power as one of my most personal Battersea paintings. Rather than focusing on the building's industrial strength, I wanted to capture something gentler - my long-standing relationship with the structure itself. By removing two of the chimneys and simplifying the skyline, I let the painting breathe. The warm reds and oranges reflect my emotional connection to Battersea, while the soft reflections in the Thames bring a sense of calm and nostalgia. This painting isn't about power in the literal sense - it's about familiarity, memory and quiet admiration. A love letter to a building that has watched London evolve for generations.
