  • Artwork Description

    A family of four moves across a snowy slope: two adults and two children bundled in bright ski clothing against a soft, almost blank winter backdrop. The mother walks slightly ahead, yellow skis slung over her shoulder, wearing a loose floppy hat that adds warmth and character to her silhouette. One child clings to her arm, being gently pulled along, clearly exhausted after a full morning. Behind, the father and older child walk together, mid-conversation, still with energy to spare. The snow underfoot is lightly textured with hints of turquoise. Colour is concentrated almost entirely in the clothing.

  • Artist's Insight

    This painting came from watching families at the end of a good morning's skiing - when everyone agrees to squeeze in just one more before food becomes the real priority. It's about tired kids, patient parents, and those small negotiations that make up the best ski holidays.

About the Artist

Johny is a painter and founder of Gallery Midnight in Balham. His work is often described as “abstract on reality”, capturing familiar landscapes, seascapes and city scenes with expressive colour and movement. Influenced by a life spent between London, the Alps and the Caribbean, his paintings explore changing light, atmosphere and energy, inviting viewers to see well-known places in new and unexpected ways.
