Power Station 60

Power Station 60

by Johny Midnight

A personal work marking a 60th birthday - Battersea stands solid in bold magentas and orange while everything surrounding it dissolves, like memory or rainfall through a window. Palette knife movement animates the reflections below.

Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

  • Artwork Description

Battersea Power Station is instantly recognisable, yet everything surrounding it dissolves into pure abstraction. The structure sits confidently at the centre of the composition, built from bold magentas, glowing oranges and deep crimson tones. The chimneys rise through layers of pale pastel yellows and soft pinks, as if filtered through mist or rain. Around them, globules and drips of paint create the sensation of rainfall on glass - blurring edges and softening the scene. The foreground is heavily worked with palette knives dragged through wet paint, merging colour and texture to suggest water in motion and reflections that fragment and stretch across the surface.

  • Artist's Insight

This one is personal. It's called Power Station 60 because it marked a moment - my brother's 60th birthday. I wanted the power station to feel solid and certain, but everything around it fluid, like memory or rain through a window. The globules of paint came from experimenting with how paint behaves when you let it drip and blob rather than controlling it. They create a sense of looking through something - a screen, a glass, a memory. The palette knife work in the foreground connects it back to the earth, to movement and water, so it doesn't float away entirely.
