  • Artwork Description

Battersea Power Station rises above a busy foreground filled with people dining, chatting and moving through the riverside development. The chimneys dominate the skyline in luminous tones catching evening light. The background sky and surrounding architecture are built from layered purples, blues and soft greys applied with rollers and expressive brushwork. The power station itself glows in vibrant magentas, pinks and oranges, with shadowed areas in deep turquoise and Prussian blue. Across the foreground, stylised figures gather - cyclists, shoppers, diners - their outlines playful and expressive, almost caricatured, adding warmth and human energy to the scene.

  • Artist's Insight

This painting is about transformation - not just of the building, but of the whole idea of what Battersea is. It used to be about industry and power. Now it's about people gathering, eating, living. I wanted to paint all of that at once - the scale of the architecture, the chaos of the crowd, the small moments of everyday life happening right beneath those chimneys. The figures are slightly cartoonish because real people in real places often have a cartoon quality to them — they're vivid, slightly exaggerated, full of gesture and movement. That's what I wanted to capture.
