Sail Away With Me Honey
Sail Away With Me Honey
by Johny Midnight
A fleet of ghostly white sails crosses a rough, turquoise-dark ocean beneath a pale blue sky streaked with abstract magenta. A large, immersive sailing canvas where the atmosphere is everything.
Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

Artwork Description
Multiple sailboats move across this large horizontal canvas - the foreground ones close and energised, the background ones reduced to slivers on the horizon. The sky is pale blue worked with abstract streaks of magenta: oil applied on top of acrylic and left to dry flat, the result not directed but discovered. The ocean is rough and turquoise, its surface textured by Johny's characteristic Prussian blues and white horses. The boats are ghostly, their forms suggested rather than resolved, their presence felt as movement within a wide, open expanse of sea and sky.

Artist's Insight
The technique of oil on top of acrylic creates something completely unpredictable when you let it dry flat. The magenta in the sky came from that - I couldn't have planned it exactly. The sky is pale blue with those abstract streaks, and it gives the painting its particular atmosphere. The boats are ghostly - they're there to tell you you're on water, and to give you perspective. But this painting is really about that feeling of a wide ocean, rough water, and the sky doing something extraordinary. The title felt right for it.
