Silent Power

Silent Power

by Johny Midnight

The most impressionistic work in the Battersea collection. Two main chimneys rise softly from a haze of pastels and warm yellows, with Monet-like reflections shimmering below - calm, contemplative and quietly, persistently powerful.

Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

  • Artwork Description

Battersea Power Station is presented head-on, stripped back to its essential form. Only the two main chimneys rise from the composition, emerging softly from a delicate blend of pale blues, dusty pinks and muted greys. The power station is built from yellows, warm oranges and gentle magentas - glowing quietly without demanding attention. A subtle dark blue form hints at the structure linking the chimneys, grounding the composition. In the foreground, brushwork becomes loose and fluid, highly impressionistic and reminiscent of Monet's water lilies - reflections shimmering rather than resolving, suggesting the River Thames without spelling it out.

  • Artist's Insight

With Silent Power I deliberately dialled everything back. No sharp lines, no dramatic skyline - just mood, colour and feeling. I've always loved Battersea for its contradictions: massive, industrial, yet strangely elegant. This painting came from wanting to explore it not as a landmark but as a presence - something that's always there, watching London change around it. The impressionistic approach let me paint emotion over accuracy. I often say this is one of the most honest Battersea paintings I've made - calm on the surface, but full of weight underneath.
