  • Artwork Description

    A single skier attacks a steep off-piste slope with total commitment - body low, skis carving, a cascade of powder erupting around them in sweeping strokes of white and blue. The composition is charged with forward motion, the slope falling away as snow-laden firs blur to the left and dazzling alpine light bleeds in from above. The surface is layered and physical - thick paint, swept strokes, and teal shadows in the churned snow. The skier is a dark shape at the centre, driving rather than being driven.

  • Artist's Insight

    Off-piste skiing can be captured on film, but catch it in oil paint and it becomes something even more dramatic. Skiing the wilds and painting the wilds - that's where the magic is. I wanted to convey the heat of effort, the sting of cold noses, the blaze of sunlight, and even the sweaty armpits of hard alpine skiing. All through paint.
