The Finish Line
The Finish Line
by Johny Midnight
The Tour de France sprint finish - front riders vivid and defined, the pack behind fragmenting into bold colour and silhouette. Vertical colour stripes pulse through the background like speed itself.
Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

Artwork Description
The foreground riders are painted with definition and urgency - helmets low, bodies committed - while behind them the peloton gradually dissolves into stylised silhouette and abstract form. The background is built from broad vertical stripes of colour: the jerseys, the spectacle, the compressed intensity of the finish captured as pure painterly energy. This is the Tour de France at its most flamboyant - electric colours, competitive proximity, the Arc de Triomphe implied in the distance. A painting for anyone who has ever felt the pulse of cycling's greatest race.

Artist's Insight
I wanted to capture the finish of the Tour de France - that extraordinary moment when the peloton sprints for the line after three weeks of racing. The riders in the foreground I painted with real care, showing their effort and their colour. But as you go back into the pack they become more abstract, more silhouetted, because in reality they're all moving so fast you can't hold all of them. The stripes in the background came from thinking about the jerseys - the yellow, the polka dot, the green - all those colours compressed into one moment.
