Where Doves Fly

Where Doves Fly

by Johny Midnight

A dove made of blossom - a springtime art lesson in thumbprints and brushwork that turned, cloud-spotting style, into the shape of a bird. Small, light and quietly hopeful, it began as a way of teaching children to paint.

Limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, it will not be reproduced.

  • Artwork Description

Soft blossom, dabbed and thumb-printed across a gentle ground, gathers into the unmistakable shape of a white dove. The technique stays visible and childlike in the best sense, all light touch and springtime colour, so the bird seems to assemble itself out of petals rather than being drawn. Small in scale and tender in mood, it carries an easy, hopeful charge - a picture found in the making rather than planned.

  • Artist's Insight

This began as an art lesson, teaching children to paint blossom with their thumbs and to handle a brush, so it would have been springtime. As I worked, I realised it would be fun - a bit like cloud-spotting - to turn the petals into the shape of something. A dove just happened to fit. I like that it started as a lesson and became its own small painting along the way.
