  • Artwork Description

    Small sailing boats lean into a stiff breeze across a broad seascape, their spinnakers blocked in punchy, saturated colour against blue water and a moving sky. The handling is loose and energetic, weighted towards atmosphere rather than nautical detail - you feel the wind more than you count the rigging. Bright sail colours anchor the composition much as the changing-cabin colours do in the artist's lido paintings, giving a lively scene its rhythm.

  • Artist's Insight

    This takes me back to living in the Caribbean and sailing hobie cats and little dinghies. What always interested me was the weather - the sky, the water, the way the light moved - more than the boats themselves. I wanted the spinnakers to be punchy, the same instinct that makes me reach for strong colour in the lido cabins. It is a painting about being out on the water with the wind behind you.
